Automation Technology Seminars 2008

Our presentations are designed to combine application know-how and new product developments to deliver some tangible benefits to you and your organisation.

Complementary to the dual stream presentation programme, there is ample opportunity to see some working demonstrations and talk to specialist teams from both SICK and Lenze.

Introduction
10.30
Improving machine safety with new drive technology
Lenze explain the concept of putting machine safety functionality into the drive. The result can be lower purchase cost, faster response times and increased machine availability. Case studies illustrate funtions such as Safe Torque Off and Safe Stop meeting safety standard IEC 61508 SIL3.

Industries move to 3 dimensional control and inspection
SICK demonstrate the benefits of using 3D vision inspection within industry. Adding height, profile and volume information as control & inspection criteria, companies are seeing the financial benefits of this technology over the traditional 2D approach. SICK will show how 3D vision is applied within the production process.
11.15
Optimising your drive & automation system
A process called Rightsizing begins by looking at suppliers and examining the scope and depth of the product range. Software tools are available for configuration and fast/accurate selection. Real life examples illustrate the savings from the process in terms of time, cost and energy.

OR

Logistics automation - increase your profit through technology
Using image capture and dimensioning technology to recover revenue and save money within logistics, warehousing and distribution. Covers - checking for multiple same ID's; package damage detection; proof of object size; simultaneous contents image capture and sorting of box; optimising warehouse storage; ensuring correct product shipped.

Coffee Break
12.15
Adapting machine safety for productivity and compliance with new standards
Covering the selection of appropriate safety measures for a complex application using robotics and handling machinery; the integration of safety measures into safety related control systems of the machine using low and high complexity control platforms; the practicality of safety networks; the application of new safety control standards.

Concepts for automation systems

Correct system design has a major influence on machine costs and performance. We look at centralised PLC and IPC systems and compare with decentralised or drive based systems. Hybrid systems are also covered. Guidance is given to match the right system topology to different types of machine.

14.00
Speed and position measuring technologies used to solve difficult applications
We examine some interesting but, in some cases, difficult measuring applications such as wire driven encoders used in the recent Casino Royale film; linear encoders used for crane positioning at 'Electric Mountain'; high accuracy incremental encoders trigger performance data for a 3000HP diesel engine; laser devices monitoring elastic deformation of a crumple zone during crash test.

OR

What to look for when outsourcing your machine control panel
We examine the elements that make up a machine control panel together with the new developments and trends. What are the requirements in terms of machine safety, meeting legislation, easy commissioning and operation? - and how can these be met by a system house or panel builder?
14.45
"Connecting ideas" - release the potential of your sensors
A breakthrough in communication at plant level, IO Link utilises standard fieldbus technology and conventional plant wiring to combine sensor and actuator management with problem oriented diagnositics.

OR

Avoid pitfalls - make the right choice between RFid, 2D or Barcode
This presentation explores the advantages of RFid, Bar codes and 2D codes. Aimed at providing you with vital information ensuring the correct system is proposed and implemented first time. Focussing on reading technology and return on investment, the myths and advantages of all three technologies are exposed.
