Traditionally, when reading a 2-D Datamatrix code the line is slowed down or stopped so a reader can take a snapshot of the area where the code is expected.
In some applications the speed of transport is too high and this is not possible.
The ICR850 is a Mini Line Scan camera that can read at very high transport speeds. Because it is a line scan camera the device can be triggered and left on for the duration of the object passing - reading up to 50 codes per item - with no restriction on object length.
for example a larger PCB with 3*6 smaller cards (18 individual PCBs) the ICR 850 can scan 70mm conveyor width and read all the codes along the length of the PCB.
The great advantage of this is that the scanner doesn't need to be moved for different board runs etc.
Th ICR 850 can also read linear codes omnidirectionally - so where EAN13 codes need to be read on the underside of packaging , the ICR850 laser is positioned between the convevors - looking between the gap. Picket fence and ladder codes are reliably read, where with a regular scanner only the ladder codes would be possible.
